Biden’s Failed Border Policies Have Communities And Law Enforcement Bracing For A Surge Of Illegal Aliens As Title 42 Authority Ends

As Title 42 Authority To Expel Illegal Arrivals Expires This Week, ‘Border Agents [And] State And Local Officials … Are All Bracing For The Arrival Of Tens Of Thousands Of Migrants,’ Fueled By The Biden Administration’s Failure To Properly Enforce The Southern U.S. Border

Law Enforcement Is Bracing As Tens Of Thousands Of Illegal Immigrants Are Waiting To Cross The Border Once Title 42 Authority Ends Later This Week, ‘As Many As 10,000 Migrants To Cross The Southern Border Each Day’

“Tens of thousands of migrants are reportedly surging at the U.S.-Mexico border ahead of Title 42's expiration.” (“Migrants Surge By US-Mexico Border Ahead Of Title 42 Expiration,” Fox News, 5/08/2023)

“The Biden administration is preparing to lift an emergency health rule that has been used to prevent hundreds of thousands of migrants from entering the United States, setting the stage for what could be a new immigration surge that inflames political tensions and strains resources across the southern border. Barring a last-minute legal challenge, the Trump-era policy known as Title 42 will expire at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. ... Border agents, state and local officials and even President Biden’s top aides in Washington are all bracing for the arrival of tens of thousands of migrants in the coming days. Already, people have begun crossing into U.S. border towns, anticipating the end of Title 42, which since 2020 has allowed the government to swiftly expel citizens of several countries back to Mexico. Three cities in Texas — Brownsville, Laredo and El Paso — have declared a state of emergency.” (“An End To Pandemic Restrictions Could Bring Thousands To The Border,” The New York Times, 5/07/2023)

“Troy Miller, the top official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), recently told Congress that his agency is preparing for as many as 10,000 migrants to cross the southern border each day after Title 42 ends, which would almost double the daily average in March. Other internal government projections suggest that daily migrant arrivals could rise to between 11,000 and 13,000, absent a major policy change.” (“How Title 42's Expiration Will Reshape Immigration Policy At The U.S.-Mexico Border,” CBS News, 5/04/2023)

“Border agents, state and local officials and even President Biden’s top aides in Washington are all bracing for the arrival of tens of thousands of migrants in the coming days. Even Before Title 42 Ends, More Than 81,000 Illegal Immigrants Were Stopped At The Southern Border In The Last Ten Days, While An Estimated 26,000 ‘Gotaways’ Evaded Authorities

“More than 81,000 migrants were stopped at the US border in the past 10 days as the frenzy ahead of the end of Title 42 on Thursday draws closer. While a huge number handed themselves in to Border Patrol, 7,400 other migrants were ‘gotaways’ who were able to slip onto US soil and away from agents through all US borders over the past 72 hours, USBP Chief Raul Ortiz said Monday. An estimated 18,700 also got away from authorities in the seven days before that, Ortiz has also said. Most gotaways are seen on video surveillance located in remote regions which are hard for agents to get to or spotted by field agents but unable to be apprehended.” (“81,000 Migrants Stopped At Border In Last 10 Days — But 26K Still Sneaked In,” New York Post, 5/08/2023)

‘A Tableau Of Human Misery,’ Thousands Of Illegal Immigrants Are Currently ‘Camped Or Living On The Streets’ In El Paso, ‘There Is No Light At The End Of The Tunnel’

“In the Texas border city of El Paso, about 2,200 migrants are currently camped or living on the streets a few blocks from major ports of entry that connect El Paso with the Mexican city of Juárez. The city is prepared to open up shelters next week if needed at two vacant school buildings and a civic center. … El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser estimated that roughly 10,000 to 12,000 migrants are in Juárez waiting to cross, as local officials prepare for the ‘unknown.’ Leeser said migrants are flocking to the border under what he said is the false assumption that it will be easier to gain entry to the U.S. when Title 42 goes away.” (“Migrants Surge By US-Mexico Border Ahead Of Title 42 Expiration,” Fox News, 5/08/2023)

“Thousands of migrants have set up an encampment on sidewalks and alleys around a church in this border city, where they wait for assistance and swap stories of their recent rush to cross into the U.S. ahead of a planned policy change by the Biden administration. … El Paso officials estimated Thursday that as many as 2,500 migrants are currently in the city, waiting to travel to other parts of the U.S. They expect that figure to grow in the coming days and skyrocket after Title 42 ends Thursday, straining the city’s ability to provide shelter, food and other assistance. U.S. officials estimate somewhere between 12,000 and 35,000 people are currently in Ciudad Juárez, a Mexican city across the Rio Grande from El Paso, waiting to enter after Thursday.” (“El Paso Is Packed With Migrants And Bracing For More After Biden Policy Shift,” The Wall Street Journal, 5/07/2023)

“Outside the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown El Paso last week, a tableau of human misery fanned out for several blocks, with destitute migrants occupying every spit of sidewalk. … Families sleep on collapsed cardboard boxes at night, affixing sheets to fences to create shade during the day. Able-bodied men are asking for bus money to reach Houston, Denver and Orlando, where they said jobs await; little children roam the alleyways scavenging for food and begging for change.” (“An End To Pandemic Restrictions Could Bring Thousands To The Border,” The New York Times, 5/07/2023)

Border State Senator: ‘The Biden Administration Had Two Years To Prepare For This And Did Not Do So… It Will Be A Humanitarian Crisis Because We’re Not Prepared’

SEN KYRSTEN SINEMA (I-AZ): “The Biden administration had two years to prepare for this and did not do so. Our state is going to bear the brunt. Migrants will be in crisis as soon as next week. It will be a humanitarian crisis because we’re not prepared.” (“Sen. Sinema Attacks Biden For Title 42 Chaos: White House 'Had Two Years To Prepare',” Fox News, 5/07/2023)

Despite The Crisis, The White House Said President Biden Would Veto House Republicans’ Border Security Bill

“President Joe Biden would veto a House GOP bill that aims to restrict asylum, build more border wall and cut a program that allows migrants a chance to stay in the U.S., including Ukrainian refugees, the White House said Monday. GOP lawmakers aim to vote on their Secure the Border Act on Thursday — the same day the emergency expulsion powers expire. Officials have already seen an increase of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border and are bracing for more.” (“Biden Would Veto House GOP Bill On Border Enforcement,” The Associated Press, 5/08/2023)

REMINDER: The Results Of Biden Administration’s Lax Border Policies ‘Are All Self-Inflicted Wounds’

More Than 3 Million Aliens Illegally Crossed The Border In The First 18 Months Of The Biden Administration

“The impact of the increase in migrant crossings — more than 3 million in the first 18 months of the Biden administration and the most in decades — has reached beyond the border. Mayors in New York, Washington D.C., and elsewhere have said the influx has strained their resources …” (“An End to Pandemic Restrictions Could Bring Thousands to the Border,” The New York Times, 5/07/2023)

Biden’s Administration Was Warned By ‘Career Officials At U.S. Customs And Border Protection’ That Relaxing Border Policies ‘Could Quickly Overwhelm The Nation’s Capacity’

“From its earliest weeks in office, the Biden administration has been playing catch up, scrambling to stem a growing immigration crisis on the US southern border … Republicans have assailed Biden's handling of the situation, blaming his early actions to overturn some of the Trump administration's draconian border enforcement policies for inducing what is shaping up to be a historic surge of migrants to the border. ‘These are all self-inflicted wounds,’ a Homeland Security official said.” (“How The Border Problem Caught The Biden Team Off Guard, And How They've Scrambled To Fix It,” CNN, 3/20/2021)

“The warnings began before Biden even took office. During the transition period, career officials at U.S. Customs and Border Protection tried to issue sober alarms to the Biden team about the likelihood of a crisis at the border that could quickly overwhelm the nation’s capacity. Senior CBP officials delivered Zoom briefings to the Biden transition team that included modeling projections showing a steep increase in the arrival of unaccompanied minors if Trump’s policies were suddenly lifted, according to one current and two former Department of Homeland Security officials.” (“‘No End In Sight’: Inside The Biden Administration’s Failure To Contain The Border Surge,” The Washington Post, 3/20/2021)

‘Biden Transition Officials Understood The Risks,’ ‘Yet Biden Immediately Embarked On An Aggressive Strategy To Roll Back’ Stronger Enforcement Policies ‘That Increased The Flow Of Migrants And Encouraged More To Try Their Luck’

“The situation at the border — which Biden and his advisers steadfastly refuse to call a crisis — is the result of an administration that was forewarned of the coming surge, yet still ill-prepared and lacking the capacity to deal with it. Administration officials have been plagued by muddled messaging, sometimes making appeals that seem directed more at liberal activists than the migrants they need to dissuade from coming to the country.” (“‘No End In Sight’: Inside The Biden Administration’s Failure To Contain The Border Surge,” The Washington Post, 3/20/2021)

“During his first week in office, Biden signed a slew of executive actions aimed at undoing Trump's immigration policies and released comprehensive immigration reform legislation. Most notable among the changes has been the decision to no longer expel unaccompanied minors who show up at the border, resulting in more children coming into US custody. Those policy changes, some argue, sent a signal to migrants that it was the time to come to the United States, despite administration officials warning them it wasn't.” (“How The Border Problem Caught The Biden Team Off Guard, And How They've Scrambled To Fix It,” CNN, 3/20/2021)

Democrats From Border Districts: ‘When You Create A System That Incentivizes People To Come Across, And They Are Released, That Immediately Sends A Message To Central America That If You Come Across You Can Stay’

“‘When you create a system that incentivizes people to come across, and they are released, that immediately sends a message to Central America that if you come across you can stay,’ said Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, whose South Texas district sits near the border with Mexico. ‘It incentivizes droves of people to come, and the only way to slow it down is by changing policy at our doorstep. If they don’t change the policy, the flow of continued migration traffic isn’t going to stop or slow down.’(“‘No End In Sight’: Inside The Biden Administration’s Failure To Contain The Border Surge,” The Washington Post, 3/20/2021)

“[Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX)] also described Biden’s message to migrants of ‘don’t come now, come later’ as ‘terrible.’ He said it ‘has to be changed to be more concise and more direct.’ He said the Biden administration needs to ‘put visuals’ of the government turning people away so the influx of people can be slowed.” (“Migrant Children At Border Adds To GOP Criticism Of Joe Biden, Whose Immigration Plan Faces Resistance,” USA Today, 3/17/2021)

FLASHBACK: During The 2020 Presidential Campaign, Biden Even Encouraged Illegal Immigrants To Come To The Border

Biden During The Primary Campaign: ‘I Would In Fact Make Sure… We Immediately Surge To The Border All Those People Are Seeking Asylum,’ ‘You Should Come,’ ‘Come To The United States’

JOE BIDEN: “What I would do as president is several more things because things have changed. I would in fact, make sure that there is we immediately surge to the border all those people are seeking asylum. They deserve to be heard. That’s who we are. We are a nation that says if you want to flee and you’re fleeing oppression you should come.” (ABC News Democratic Presidential Debate, 9/12/2019)

JOE BIDEN: “All of the bad things are coming through ports of entry right now. We don’t need a wall and by the way I would immediately as president surge to the border. I would end this notion for the first time in history the people seeking asylum have to be in squalor on the other side of the river and--and desperate situation. They should be-- be-- come to the United States and have a judgment made as to whether or not they qualify. I would also surge to the border immigration judges to make--make decisions immediately and no one, no one would be put in jail while waiting for their hearing.” (CNN and Univision Democratic Presidential Debate, 3/15/2020)

‘And Those Who Come Seeking Asylum, We Should Immediately Have The Capacity To Absorb Them’

JOE BIDEN: “But the fact is that, look, we should not be locking people up. We should be making sure we change the circumstance, as we did, why they would leave in the first place. And those who come seeking asylum, we should immediately have the capacity to absorb them, keep them safe until they can be heard.” (NBC News Democratic Presidential Debate, 6/27/2019)
