McConnell Statement On Sweden’s Accession To NATO

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued the following statement on Hungary’s approval of Sweden’s accession to NATO:

“Strengthening the North Atlantic Treaty Organization means strengthening U.S. national security and the collective security of the West. Today, Hungary’s near-unanimous ratification of Sweden’s accession brings another capable and committed ally to the doorstep of the most successful military alliance in human history.

“Sweden’s commitment to technological innovation and defense investment will make immediate and meaningful contributions to the trans-Atlantic alliance. Our newest treaty ally continues to expand its defense industrial capacity and model the military budget increases expected of all NATO member states. The United States and the entire alliance will be proud to formally welcome Sweden to our ranks this year.”
