McConnell on the Passing of Sen. Slade Gorton
‘My condolences go out to the Gorton family and to everyone who is mourning our friend Slade.”
LOUISVILLE, KY – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued the following statement today regarding the passing of former Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA):
“Today, Elaine and I are grieving the loss of my good friend and former colleague Senator Slade Gorton.
“Slade dedicated his entire adult life to public service. At every stage of his career, from the Washington State Capitol to his years in the Senate to endeavors including the 9/11 Commission, he marshaled his trademark smarts, seriousness, and intensity for the benefit of those he served. Slade was someone whose idea of a fun family summer was to cycle together across the country. That same focus and sheer determination delivered for Washington time after time, on everything from technical policy issues to keeping Major League Baseball in Seattle.
“My condolences go out to the Gorton family and to everyone who is mourning our friend Slade.”
