Majority Leader McConnell’s Statement on Governor Rick Perry
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released the following statement regarding President-elect Trump’s intention to nominate Governor Rick Perry as Energy Secretary:
“President-elect Trump has made an outstanding choice with Governor Perry to head the Department of Energy with a focus on more American energy and more American jobs. For the past eight years, our nation’s energy potential has been held back by an administration that put ideology and politics ahead of jobs and our economy. We need someone like Governor Perry to help guide policies that will help strengthen America’s energy and national security. I am specifically interested in working with him on research and development related to coal technology in addition to the restoration and future uses of the Department of Energy site in Paducah."
Background: The Senate will consider nominations in a thorough and timely manner as it does its part to ensure a smooth transition between administrations. Additional details and scheduling announcements regarding confirmation hearings will be forthcoming from the committee of jurisdiction.
